This trend first was seen on Prabal Gurung's Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk and seems to have hit the big time! The Stylist Magazine Beauty Editor even wrote an article about the trend a couple of weeks back.Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury from M.A.C was used behind the scenes. Her inspiration was Prabal's vivid flower imagery and bold colours in his designs. Her idea for bold lips and barely there makeup helps compliment the vision of the catwalk show.
“The way we translate that in the makeup, we have this matte lip juxtaposed with this beautiful dewy sci-fi highlighted skin,” she said. “We wanted it to feel sensual, intoxicating but strong and powerful.” Charlotte Tilbury

With its fuchsia outer edge and the plum inside tone- the effect looks like they both bleed naturally into each other.
“To create the orchid like effect coming out of her mouth, we create this whole thing with darkness and light,” Charlotte said. “It starts with a black in the lip and then a dark purple, into magenta into a fuchsia into a fluo pink. And we’re slightly overdrawing the lip but with a soft blended out line.” Charlotte Tilbury
But as Stylist magazine warns- this lipstick trend takes no prisoners! Drink, eat or kiss anything or else the effect will be ruined. Sadly this trend is far from practical for everyday makeup looks.
Fear not, adapt! Stick to bright fuchsia pinks and plum mauves and you can still recreate this seasons keep lip trend!
