REVIEW: What's all this about B.B Cream?

"All at once. Moisture, protection and flawless perfection."

There has been a lot of hype surrounding "B.B Creams". Sorting through the archives and saw this rather interesting piece "Meet the future of foundation: BB Cream" in Stylist Magazine, and a blogpost sprang to mind!!

Garnier was first to launch, then EsteeLauder, Clinique, Dior and MAC have all launched their own versions and now Origins are launching theirs. But are they just jumping on the bandwagon here? Are any of them any different from each other?

The ‘beauty miracles’ boast a multitude of functions - protecting the skin from sun, while moisturising, nourishing and restoring, camouflaging imperfections and prevention of skin ageing. Originating from Asia, BB stands for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm. It is a make-up bag staple for Korean girls because it promises natural-looking skin coverage.

Read on further for my reviews and recommendations on some of the big BB Creams currently on the market.

I was given a sample of Estee Lauder's BB Crème to trial from work and so far have been using it for the past week. The back of the tube states that you can use alone or wear underneath foundation. Well I definitely could not use it alone!! I have been trialling the Light version however it really does not suit my skintone- making my skin far too yellow. Instead I am preferring to use it simply as a primer. It does make my skin feel silky smooth  so is a perfect base to start my makeup routine with and evens out my skintone very well. It being SPF 35 and oil-free is a definite bonus. Unfortunately cannot say too much else on this product! I will say, the smell is lovely- reminds me of cucumbers :)
My recommendation on Estee Lauder B.B Cream : 2/5

Garnier’s Miracle Skin Perfector offers a slightly more affordable option that gives an instant glow. This cream not only covers imperfections and brightens up your complexion but is the perfect base for your foundation or blush. Again not sure if I could wear alone unless it was summer and I had a hint of colour on my skin but it does provide a strong matte base like any other primer. Check out Jane Cunningham's (aka The BritishBeautyBlogger) thoughts on the Garnier B.B Cream:

My recommendation on Garnier B.B Cream : 4/5

And Clinique offers a wonderfully hydrating Age-defense BB Cream (£25, www.clinique.co.uk) that expertly hides imperfections. Plus, it provides excellent coverage from the sun with SPF 30 but in doing so makes it feel thick on skin. If you like a light coverage, than this BB cream is not for you! One big plus however it that this cream helps eliminate shine and combats oil-control so perfect for those with oily skin.
My recommendation on Clinique B.B Cream : 2/5

Protecting from the sun with its SPF 15 whilst simultaneously minimizing pores and fine lines,Origins’ age-defense tinted moisturizer with white tea (£27, www.origins.co.uk) is the ultimate multitasker in skincare.  Available in a range of shades- this has become one of the most easiest BB Creams to wear- finding one that suits your colouring is now possible!
My recommendation on Origins B.B Cream : 4/5

MAC Prep&Prime Beauty balm SPF 35- this version is much lighter in coverage than the above BB Creams but despite this still gives you an even coverage that doesn't make you feel like you are going out bare-faced! This cream helps to balance out your skin tone whilst providing a high sun protection, unlike some others on the market.
My recommendation on MAC B.B Cream : 3.5/5

How about anybody else? Have you tried any and beg to differ on my review? :)  think they are better/worse? let me know what you think!!

  1. Thank you for providing this review of BB creams I have been looking to choose a suitable one following my skin peel treatment from Cosmedocs Clinic London. I will give a try to Estee Lauder’s BB cream.
